Numerous essential biological processes are influenced epigenetically by methylation of proteins on arginine and lysine residues. However, studies on writers, readers, and erasers of methyl-arginine marks and chemical/pharmacological modulation of protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) lag far behind those of lysine methylation. The focus of this conference is to explore new mechanisms in protein arginine methylation and develop effective therapeutic strategies to harness their aberrant activities in pathogenesis. The proposed sessions will feature leaders in the transcription and epigenetics field in the United States. In addition, sessions will provide invaluable opportunities for the career development of graduate students and postdocs. Speakers will include engaging junior and mid-career faculty.
