FASEB amplifies the voice of working scientists by advocating directly with decision-makers, representing scientists on Capitol Hill, and empowering member societies and their members to share their perspectives and expertise with policy makers.
Advocate for Research Funding
As a FASEB member, your society joins with other scientific societies that are calling for increased research funding in joint letters to Congress and statements to regulators and policymakers. If increased funding is one of your society’s strategic goals, FASEB’s team of experts helps you meet it by tracking appropriations funding and providing deep-dive analyses of funding specific to your field.
Influence Legislation
When your society joins FASEB, it joins a network of scientific societies that is taking an active role in influencing legislation and policy on issues relevant to their fields. Advocating together, FASEB members have provided significant feedback informing HR 36, the Combatting Sexual Harassment in Science Act; eliminated the graduate student tax from the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017; and helped persuade Congress to pass the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill on time in 2018 for the first time in more than 20 years—just to cite a few examples.

Using staff expertise and contacts, FASEB can help your society coordinate in-state office and lab visits with policymakers, and assist with media interactions—all with the goal of strategizing to advance your society’s position.
