FASEB Responds to NIH Postdoc RFI

Thursday, April 6, 2023
On April 5, FASEB responded to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Request for Information (RFI) on re-envisioning U.S. postdoctoral research training and career progression within the biomedical research enterprise. The RFI solicited feedback on topics that centered on improved quality of life for postdoctoral scholars. In its comments, FASEB emphasized that a postdoctoral position should ideally be a short-term, defined, transitionary period to independence in the chosen career path. Variable strategies for employment classification and pay, as well as one-year contracts, may create inequities and instability, leading to worsened quality of life.
