FASEB Statement on NIH Director Nomination

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) applauds President Joseph R. Biden on his nomination of Monica Bertagnolli, MD, as the next Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Bertagnolli’s leadership at the National Cancer Institute – where she spearheaded the National Cancer Plan released earlier this month – coupled with her distinguished career as a physician scientist will be invaluable assets to NIH and the entire biomedical research community. As the world leader in fundamental biological and biomedical research, NIH needs a permanent director to maintain and build upon the tremendous progress towards its mission to enhance health through discovery. FASEB urges the U.S Senate to immediately initiate consideration of this critical nomination and confirm Bertagnolli as NIH Director without delay.
