Former FASEB Board member and President Paul Wayne Kincade, PhD, died on October 5, 2025. Dr. Kincade served on the FASEB Board from 1998 to 2004 and was President from 2004 to 2005. As FASEB President-Elect, Kincade was part of the team that helped prepare a delegation of Nobel Laureates who met with Vice President Dick Cheney in 2004 to ask the George W. Bush administration for a renewed commitment to National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. The delegation included Alfred Gilman, Sidney Altman, Sherwood Rowland, and Thomas Cech. Kincade also worked with Vice President for Science Policy Bettie Sue Masters to convene the 2002 Science Policy Symposium, which focused on workforce issues, and later published analyses of biomedical scientist training and employment data and opportunities. FASEB’s creation of online statistical resources on NIH research funding and published articles on funding patterns that were posted publicly for anyone to use were some of the projects that moved forward with Kincade’s support and encouragement during his time in the FASEB leadership.

Kincade was a world-renowned immunologist, Past-President of the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), and a long-standing advocate for medical research. In a tribute to Dr. Kincade, AAI acknowledged his lengthy career at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) and many contributions to the scientific community. He was also a member of the American Society for Investigative Pathology. The full obituary, which notes his service to AAI and FASEB, is available here.

FASEB extends our deepest condolences to Dr. Kincade’s family, friends, and scientific colleagues.
