In late November 2022, National Science Foundation (NSF) proposed evaluation of its Eddie Bernice Johnson Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) initiative to better understand its effectiveness in broadening participation of historically underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In its recent comments to NSF, FASEB praised NSF for naming INCLUDES after former Congresswoman and strong STEM advocate Eddie Bernice Johnson and the INCLUDES initiative overall.

INCLUDES is a critical component to NSF’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and broadening participation in STEM, supporting overall goals in NSF’s strategic plan. FASEB’s comments emphasize use of the INCLUDES National Network to foster relationships and share resources on diversity, equity, and inclusivity.  FASEB looks forward to formal assessment of the INCLUDES initiative to bolster evidence of the importance of this program.
