In June, FASEB launched a webinar series to raise awareness about IDeA (Institutional Development Awards) and EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research), which are funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. These programs provide federal mechanisms that support scientific research, collaboration, and mentoring networks, which can be transformative for investigators, particularly early-career researchers. However, awareness of these opportunities varies across universities.

The final webinar in the series, “How Institutional Department Chairs Can Advocate for Researchers in IDeA/EPSCoR States” is scheduled for October 15, 12–1 pm ET. It will feature Hubert Tse, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Tse will discuss strategies for university leadership, including department chairs in IDeA/EPSCoR states, to help faculty leverage these programs to enhance their research and career development.
