Keisa Mathis, PhD

Keisa Mathis is an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Anatomy at  the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. She trained at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health-National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and Department of Defense to conduct her research on hypertension and lupus.  

Mathis serves on local and national committees at the UNT Health Science Center, the American Physiological Society, American Heart Association, and American Society for Nephrology. She also serves as associate editor for the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory and is executive director of the newly established Black in Physiology. She enjoys teaching physiology and sharing information regarding biomedical research with future health professional students, undergraduates, and K-12 students. She is a wife and mother of four daughters, and she enjoys being a “dance mom.”
