FASEB Supports Proposed Updates to NSF’s PAPPG
By: Yvette SegerThursday, February 13, 2025
On February 4, FASEB submitted comments in support to proposed updates to the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). In its comments, FASEB noted that most of the updates were necessary to reflect implementation of existing laws and other federal directives, such as the continued implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 and the National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 and recent updates to 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards) and NSF’s public access policy. Comments for the latter expressed appreciation for updated information pertaining to the development of data management and sharing plans.
FASEB’s comments also supported updated language to enhance the inclusivity of NSF processes, namely the requirement to include descriptive alternative text for all images, graphs, and charts and use of machine readable/accessible electronic formats when developing proposals. FASEB also appreciated proposed language that would add medical leave of a senior/key person or immediate family member as eligible for extension of a proposal deadline.
The anticipated effective date of the revised PAPPG is October 2025.
